Take a look inside the classroom! Teacher Carley, assistant teacher in one of our afternoon classes, shares with us one of the kids’ favorite activities from their classroom during Feburary.
In the month of February, we embraced our monthly theme of healthy choices by focusing on exercise, nutrition, healthy habits, and staying safe for a week each. We had lots of fun exploring nutrition by taste testing various vegetables, including radishes, onions, celery, and cabbage as well as using them as stamps to create unique paintings.
We also learned the importance of eating sweets in moderation by reading “Pinkalicious” by Victoria and Elizabeth Kann –which quickly became the new favorite book of the class! In this story, a little girl turns pink after eating too many pink cupcakes and to her dismay the only way to return to normal is to eliminate pink food from her diet and replace it with as much green food as possible.
We did a literacy enrichment activity with our new favorite book in which we talked about what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of the plot by arranging photocopies of the book’s illustrations in chronological order, as well as drawing our favorite part of the book.
