Parent Involvement

Parent involvement is vital to children’s success in school. Joyce Preschool strives to involve parents in as many ways as possible so that families can build the foundation for academic and lifelong success together.

Parent Volunteering

Parent are encouraged to volunteer in the classroom; other opportunities to get involved include planning events, preparing projects, and participating in school events.

Parent volunteering can be as simple as reading a book to kids in the classroom, or as in-depth as helping us plan our largest annual fundraiser. For more on current volunteer opportunities, or to get in touch with one of our volunteer contacts, check out our volunteer page.

Conferences & Feedback

Parent-teacher conferences are held twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. Joyce also asks parents to participate in two-parent surveys each year to obtain valuable feedback about the success and accessibility of the program.

Home Visiting

New families are welcomed into the Joyce community by being offered the opportunity to have an introductory home visit, which helps families and new students build a relationship with our staff in a comfortable setting. Follow-up visits take place as needed.

La Asociación de Padres de Familia

Joyce Preschool hosts monthly workshops for Spanish-speaking families, addressing needs specific to parents who have additional linguistic or cultural challenges to school and life success in the United States. The group is encouraged to decide the focus and topics of interest. Joyce provides a light dinner and childcare to promote to attendance. The Padres group connects families to community resources, as well as provides opportunities for families to share knowledge and wisdom about their own experiences.

Other Involvement

Joyce has other ways for parents to be involved and explore learning at Joyce Preschool, including:

  • school tours
  • orientation, Welcome Days
  • classroom cultural celebrations
  • school-choice informational meetings
  • school-wide parent workshops in English and Spanish

Our passion is not only to prepare children to thrive in a multi-lingual world, but to teach them the skills and confidence to make it better.
