March was Around the World Month!
Because of Joyce Preschool’s focus on multiculturalism, this is a very important theme for us. Each class explored the world in a different way, and visited different countries. Many countries each year belong to the families from each classroom, and we had many visitors share about their cultural heritage, traditions, foods, art, and more.
In Teacher Thressa and Maestro Camilo’s class, students and families learned about many different countries and cultures, including Cameroon, Mexico, Argentina, El Salvador, Ecuador, Haiti, Norway, Finland, South Minneapolis, and living on a farm. From looking at honeybee hives to making tortillas, eating sweet bread from Haiti and lefse from Norway to looking at Frida Kahlo’s art, and reading stories about Moomins to having a dance party with a 100 year old accordion, the kids asked questions and had fun while learning more about themselves and each other.
In Maestra Gloria and Maestra Janett’s class, they visited many countries France, Norway, and Mexico. They learned how Norwegian food is made. They also had a wonderful parade of flags!
