January was Community month at Joyce!

In Teacher Thressa and Maestro Camilo’s class, this meant a lot of visitors coming in to talk, teach, and play. Several family members volunteered, leading a yoga lesson, explaining what it’s like to teach college math, and talking about fire safety while giving kids a chance to try on firefighter gear; local businesses like Pizza Luce and GlamDoll donuts brought food and fun; a Peruvian folkloric dance group brought costumes, music, dancing, and art projects; and others from the neighborhood came to help, read, and interact.

The students loved having community members in the classroom – and it doesn’t end in January! Joyce welcomes families and friends to ask about visiting and volunteering any time.
