I am writing to share some big news: I am moving on from Joyce Preschool.

I became the Executive Director in 2010, at a really exciting time. The new strategic plan for expansion had just been launched, and I had the chance to help Joyce build the connections it needed to move forward. In 2012 we opened the Joyce at Windom satellite classroom, and in 2013 we successfully relocated. Joyce received the 2013 Nonprofit Excellence Award from our nonprofit community in recognition of our work.

Having accomplished so much, I am ready to move on to new adventures. I submitted my resignation to Joyce’s Board of Directors in September. Together, the Board and I took time to plan this transition, and last week they were ready to accept my resignation.

I am pleased to share that the Board of Directors has named Laura Tompkins as Joyce’s Interim Executive Director. Currently in her fifth year with Joyce Preschool, Laura has served as Joyce’s Development Director and most recently as Associate Director, where she worked in close partnership with me. She is a parent of two Joyce graduates, and brings a passion from her firsthand experience that I am confident will serve our community well. I will continue to work alongside Laura and Joyce’s Board of Directors, and be available as a resource, to ensure this transition is a smooth one.

Though it is time for me to move on, the work that happens at Joyce every day is incredibly valuable. For more than four years, every day I saw teachers and staff lovingly working alongside dedicated families, facing all sorts of challenges. That work has always happened with the support of our Joyce community.

So as I say goodbye, I want to remind you that the work that happens at Joyce is your work, and that your support is what has always moved the program forward. Joyce exists because supporters like you see the value of a strong start to education.

I will carry with me many fond memories of my time at Joyce — but more than that, I look forward to seeing what your support continues to make happen in the future.

Thank you all.

Sincerely,

Sarah Clyne
