This fall, Joyce Preschool welcomes three new staff members: Amy Smith, Wendy Sosa, and Elissa Schufman. You can get to know each of them by reading their biographies below.
Amy Smith, Parent Outreach Coordinator: Amy began working at Joyce in the summer of 2011. She holds a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Minnesota and has a range of experience working with families and with new immigrants, most recently through the Minneapolis Public Schools. Amy learned Spanish through coursework and by living in a variety of countries including Ecuador, Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. Amy has a lot of fun with her three school-age children and in her free time enjoys cooking, baking and ice skating.
Wendy Sosa, Assistant Teacher (2-Day Class): Wendy is originally from Chihuahua, Mexico. She is studying Child Development at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. Wendy has volunteered in many Latino organizations and has gained experience working with children. She is excited to join Joyce Preschool's teaching team this year!
Elissa started volunteering at Joyce in March 2011, and is starting this fall as Joyce's Administrative Intern. She has a Bachelor's degree in Spanish Language and English Writing from DePauw University, and spent time abroad studying in Madrid and living in Japan. Elissa has been volunteering and working with young children since 2006. She has more hobbies than anyone should have, including juggling, kite flying, cooking, disc golf, knitting, reading, skiing, watching movies, playing board games, and spending time with her three siblings.
